Twenty-something Engineer, building a career.

In July 2015 I created the idea for 'The Engineering Women' and went about setting up this blogger page, Facebook and Instagram accounts.

But I never posted anything.

I created lots of lovely graphics, but actually making any sense of why I wanted to create a blog and turning my opinions and experiences into creating posts was a stumbling block for me. So the account sat unused, whilst I ran through 1001 different post ideas, but never really setting on anything I felt confident enough to publish in the public domain.

Its now April 2017, nearly two years has past, and I am still passionate about utilizing this blog as a place to discuss my experience working in an Engineering profession, as a woman.

However time has moved on. When I created this account I was a 'Twenty-something engineer building a career'.  This has now changed into a '30 year old mother working full time, creating a family and developing a career' . Not quite as catchy, but defiantly a perspective I feel isn't shouted about enough.

After announcing pregnancy and the excitement of 2 becoming 3 with the addition of a new baby, the assumption many people make is you wont be returning to work. Or if you do choose to return to work, after over 1 year away on maternity leave, you only want to return part time. Whilst the baby goes to nursery a couple of hours a week, you need to do something to keep you busy, right?

Wrong.

Becoming a mother does not mean you automatically loose the passion you have to make a difference or the ambition to be a senior leader or creator of the next solution to redefine your industry.
Priorities do change continuously throughout different stages of life, however your core values are what make up the foundations of your character, they are what make you 'You' and are the things that are important for you to be happy in the way you live and work.

I am proud to say I am an Engineer, a Mother and an employee.
I hope The Engineering Woman can give some insight into the accomplishments and challenges faced in the way I live and work.

Thank you
Hannah
